Portsmouth challenges you to get fit Created on 20/03/2013 14:53:00
Even though the British Heart Foundation South Downs Challenge has been and gone (23 February) for 2013, the Portsmouth area offers many other fitness challenges in 2013 including:
Don't enjoy going to the gym? Want to exercise outside in the fresh air? Want to have fun whilst exercising? Want to lose weight, raise your energy levels and get fit? Want to meet new people in the area?
Local company, ‘Innovations Fitness’, offers a combination of low and high intensity physical activities - including circuit training, boxercise, assault courses, log runs, team games and command tasks - in various locations in the area, including the park in Emsworth and Hayling Island.
Their military experienced physical trainers will ensure you stay on target to achieve your personal fitness and weight loss goals. They run groups for beginners to more advanced classes and aim to make sure you have fun and get the most out of your exercise class. “No boring gym machines, we work hard and have fun!” they say. If you like running, swimming and cycling, have you thought about triathlons?
Starter fitness levels don’t matter. They say “we all have to start somewhere”.
The Portsmouth Triathletes have been established since 1988. They are a friendly, social club that caters for all levels of athlete and race distances whether you are a beginner, improver or an 'elite' athlete.
Training sessions are held regularly at fitness centres, swimming pools and country parks in the area in all of the three disciplines involved in triathlon.
They also organise several races during the year that are part of the Triathlon calendar, where many of our people compete or else give up their chance to compete in order to help run the race. They also hold low key (free) events as out of season warm ups and interclub events with others in the areas. More details
There is also a Sprint Triathlon event for members of the David Lloyd Sport Centre in Port Solent on 28 April 2013. This will involve a 400m swim in the indoor swimming pool, a 16.1 mile cycle around Port Solent and then a 3 mile run around Port Solent.
• The Great South Run
This famous 10 mile Portsmouth road race takes place on Sunday 27 October this year; so there is plenty of time to get training. Entries are open now
• Spinnaker Tower
City dwellers can take part in one of the Spinnaker Tower activities like ‘Storm the Tower’ (a vertical sprint up its 530 steps) or a charity abseil to raise funds for Naomi House (5 May 2013).
