Fasset and ARAMARK host an Apprentice Style Challenge for Management Team Event Created on 06/06/2011 09:49:00
Regional Parks specialist Fasset Ltd and food service partner provider ARAMARK combined forces to create an ‘Apprentice’ style challenge for a recent management event, combining team building, strategic thinking, negotiation, creativity and cooking!
With just £30 each to spend, the teams had to devise a menu with an Olympic theme. They were then taken to the famous Borough Market in the City of London to negotiate on and purchase ingredients, before heading to managed food service company ARAMARK’s London based ‘Innovation Centre’, to meet their chef professionals and create their dishes in the professional kitchen facilities.
Angela Wyer (ARAMARK) is the restaurant manager at the Fasset flagship site, Langstone Technology Park in Havant, Hants. She was involved in arranging this event from the initial stage: “This challenge gave me the opportunity to show the management team at Fasset what an innovative and exciting company ARAMARK is. We use only the freshest ingredients, pioneering cooking methods and creativity to ensure customer satisfaction, all great disciplines - whatever business you are in.”
The winning team consisted of Michael Cripps (Finance Manager, Fasset), Debbie Jenkins (HR Manager, Fasset) and Wayne Hellewell (Site Manager, Caswell Science and Technology Park); who cooked up a culinary treat in the form of a platter style selection of food from all of the various continents. As the least experienced cooks participating, it was felt by the judges that their teamwork and ingenuity really shone through.

Gary Medlow, Managing Director Fasset Ltd comments: “The team and I all attended the IoD Annual Convention in London and I wanted to capitalize on the momentum with a challenge that was topical, interesting, challenging and fun! ARAMARK were fantastic and if I ever needed a justification as to why we selected them as our catering provider, this was it.”
Fasset currently has three UK sites under management with over 90% occupancy levels at the LTP flagship and Mr. Medlow attributes much of this success to the process led business culture implemented: “These types of team building events cement what is already a strong inter-departmental connection in operation across the organisation. It gave us the opportunity to find out more about individual strengths and use this knowledge to achieve the desired approach. The food produced was absolutely stunning, certainly restaurant worthy and being a judge had its merits, as I got to taste everything!”
