Fasset Renews Support For Business & Education Partnership Created on 09/11/2011 09:16:00
Fasset Ltd, the national facilities management company behind Langstone Technology Park has once again committed time and resources to support the Portsmouth & South East Hampshire Business Education Business Partnership (EBP) with their LEAP initiative which kicked off last week.
The Learning, Excel, Aspire Programme (LEAP) was launched in April 2011 with the objective of bringing business and education closer to promote work skills, consider employability and improve general self esteem through a series of interactive workshops.
For the second consecutive academic year, a team of Fasset business mentors will work alongside a group of Yr 9 students (aged 13/14) from the local secondary school, Havant Academy. As with the previous programme, the mentors want to help the students learn and develop vital leadership and confidence skills to help equip them for their future employment choices. Jess Memery, Business Development Manager EBP comments: “EBP is delighted that Fasset is continuing their involvement in the LEAP and we are very excited about the challenges and learning opportunities being created for local student”.
With limited places available on the programme, students from the Academy were invited to apply and the shortlist was formally interviewed by Jess and Debbie Jenkins, HR Manager for Fasset. They were looking not only for candidates to impress with their enthusiasm but also show what they hoped to achieve by participating in the programme. Twelve students were successful and all were invited to Langstone Technology Park last week to meet the mentors and find out what the next few sessions would involve.
The Fasset mentor team bring a diverse range of skills and experience: Debbie Jenkins - HR Manager, Shirley Cuthbertson - Business Excellence Manager, Mitch Avis – Corporate Account Manager and Stuart Adamson – Finance Manager.
This year the programme includes five workshops with the final one (in December) being a presentation to an audience comprised of Gary Medlow, Managing Director at Fasset, the business mentors, EBP, Havant Academy management team and local dignitaries. Debbie has been instrumental in continuing the Fasset support of this business-education partnership and once again has been taken aback by the calibre of the participants: “With so much in the media about youth unemployment and skill gaps, this programme offers students a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the world of business in a practical, challenging and exciting way. It is however so much more than just something they can put on their CV; it helps them with problem solving, it shows the importance of team work and fingers crossed, it boosts their confidence and prospects for the future.”
Gary Medlow, Managing Director Fasset has also been shortlisted in the 2011 EBP ‘Amazing People Awards’ being announced on November 2nd 2011, in the following categories:
- Amazing People in a Sustainable Business Partnership with a School or College – Category 1
- Amazing ‘Medium’ Business – Outstanding Contribution to Education Business Partnerships – Category 8
